married in Wilson Co TN
They are buried in Ava City cemetery, Ava, Douglas Co MO.

--
from a writeup by granddaughter Ida Clinkingbeard:

Thomas had dark hair and brown eyes, and was of Irish ancestry. He made his living as a school teacher. He was in the Union Army, and worked his way up to become a major. He was discharged because of his age shortly before the Civil War broke out. Thomas' brother was a slave owner, but Thomas didn't want to have anything to do with slavery.

Thomas left TN for MO c1853.
"The family came west in a wagon train. Thomas broke his leg. The wagon train continued on,
leaving him behind until he mended -- a chancy act as Matilda was pregnant. Family biography
calls him a major in the Civil War; however, records at Jefferson City indicate he was a private."
