The Kay Lamb book gives marriage date for William Cowan as 1784-07-07.
"Marriages of Rowan Co NC 1753-1868" also shows the 1784 marriage date. However, it says the
bondsman for the marriage was Ralph Hinds.
The 1790 census has a Ralph Hains in Rowan Co. He is on p336. There is a William Cowen on p346.

The 1800 census has 3 William Cowans in Rowan Co NC. This one might be them:

William Cowan 1 M <10, 1 M 10-16, 1 M 26-45, 3 F <10, 1 F 10-16, 1 F 26-45
The other two both have wives over 45.

Is this the Mary Hinds c1765 who married 1779-01-11 in Wilkes Co NC Ephraim Parmley c1760 Westfield NJ so/o Giles Parmley + Margaret Frazee?
Probably not. The Hindses were not in Wilkes Co. They may have passed through on the way from
Randolph Co NC to Wayne Co KY, but it's unlikely they were in Wilkes Co long enough for Mary to meet
and marry Ephraim.
